RMIJDBC and applet

Hi, I am very new to java and RMI. I have an applet which accesses an ACCESS database. It works fine on the appletviewer but will not load on the browser. I get an exception on security issues. When I comment out the JDBC-ODBC code from the applet it loads on to the browser. It was suggested that I should connect the applet to an application which will talk to the database. I would do this connection thru RMI. Is RMIJDBC the right tool for this project? If so how exactly would I implement this connection?
