Re: [exoplatform] EXO-Bonita

Hi Pauli,

First of all, thanks for your interest in eXo-Bonita ! eXo-Bonita is the integration of eXo Platform and Bonita Workflow engine. I asked Miguel Valdes, the leader of the Bonita Project, if he could provide some information that answers to your questions. Here is what he said :

"You will find some usefull information about Bonita and eXo integration under the following link: http://docs.exoplatform.org/exo-documents/exo-ecm.services.workflow.impl.bonita/index.html.

We have recently published on TheServerSide some interesting articles of both projects separetly:

Bonita: http://www.theserverside.com/tt/articles/article.tss?l=BonitaPart1
eXo: http://www.theserverside.com/tt/articles/article.tss?l=eXoPlatform, http://www.theserverside.com/tt/articles/article.tss?l=eXoPlatform2

Stay tunned because the third part of the Bonita trilogy (planed to be published end August) will be dedicated to the integration with eXo.

In addition to this integration, we are focusing our developments on a workflow development platform for Bonita based on the Eclipse IDE. Our first developments are to move our commecial workflow suite developed on top of Bonita to Eclipse.
This workflow suite is composed by a XPDL compliant workflow editor, a web forms editor based on xForms and a workflow administration console. We are currently having an internal discussion to donate also this suite to the open source community (same licence than Bonita).

As soon as this migration is done we will start working on a framework which will help the developers to build a J2EE application on top of the Bonita engine. This framework will be based on the MDA approach and our internal Eclipse based environment able to generate the J2EE application source code from a UML description. Of course, eXo Portlets will be taken into account.

In parallel with this activity we have started to work on the next version of the Bonita engine (v3). This one will be based on the EJB3 beans and will be agnostic to the application server.

In the context of the ObjectWeb consortium, we have started a collaboration program with the Orientware community (chinese open source community) to work together in BPM platform supporting both traditional workflow and BPEL engines. One of the main features that this collaboration wants to address is the implementation of a BPM graphical Business Analyst oriented and based on the BPMN specification.

Other developments involved Bonita and eXo are:

- Rule engine integration in Bonita
- Integration improvement with eXo: XPDL workflow editor integration, web forms customization...

Miguel"

I just want to add that we are working very closely with the ECM platform, as eXo-Bonita is built on top of it. eXo-Bonita final 1.0 is scheduled in the coming weeks, just after the final release of eXo-ECM. The current release is the RC6. As you may have certainly seen, installation instructions are provided in the root of the zip package.

Process Mining is a topic that we haven't started investigating deeply, due to lack of resources. If you like to contribute, don't hesitate to contact us, any help is welcomed !

Again, have a look at the online documentation pointed out by Miguel. Feel free to ask us any other information you might need.

Best regards,
-Brice.

Objet : [exoplatform] EXO-Bonita

Dear Sirs,

I have just recently joined the consortium as a private member. My main interests at the moment are focused on the IT platform needs of knowledge-intensive start-up companies, where the common work space, workflow management, knowledge process management and the subsequent content management needs are crucial for both KM and standard compliance (traceability) reasons. The business processes in such an environment are, to my beliefs, mostly ad hoc, emergent and also turn out to be network matrix types instead of linear processes.

Because of this I would be very interested in receiving as detailed information as possible regarding the EXO-Bonita synthesis, so as to be able to figure out a proper plan for the installation and implementation project. My interests are also directed toward process mining in order to address emergent processes and social networks regarding knowledge work.

I downloaded the EXO-JOnAS-Bonita zip file, but was unable to find a pdf or a corresponding file regarding detailed information... very much alike the ones you have available on the exo platform as such.

I would very much appreciate receiving any information you might have to help me out planning the exo-bonita project. I'd also very much appreciate hearing from any further combination projects you have under way or are planning to begin regarding the KM, ECM platform, workflow management, process mining issues.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Pauli Suominen
