New distribution model and New download page

Dear community,

 

We are delighted to unveil the new eXo Platform distribution model. It was devised in synergy with you, our users and customers. To better suit your needs, we are now launching two distributions:

 

- The Community distribution, targeted at users who want to evaluate eXo Platform or implement mid-sized projects with low Service Level Agreement. This distribution is based on binary packages that contain the very last features of the project. The source code revision used when building is deduced from the package names. This distribution is updated every two weeks. Keeping this high frequency allows the community to quickly get fixes to potential problems. It also allows developers to collect real-time feedback on their work. The distribution is freely downloadable from http://forge.objectweb.org/project/showfiles.php?group_id=151&release_id=1972 . The corresponding documentation will be available soon in a Wiki. Users are also encouraged to leverage the Community mailing list, exoplatform@xxxxxxxxxxxxx.

 

- The Subscription distribution, targeted at customers who consider a higher level of stability, support and service. Every 6 to 12 months, a new source branch is derived from the project. This branch is enriched by business added values and then extensively tested by the eXo Q&A team. During the whole life of the branch, only bug fixes and small improvements are made. This stabiliy is a key factor to the success of customers projects. Advanced support, training and consulting are also provided.

 

In both distributions, the source code will be publicly available at http://forge.objectweb.org/plugins/scmsvn/index.php?group_id=151. Indeed, eXo Platform adheres to the Open Source model and allows everyone to build his own versions of the Platform.

 

The download page of eXo Platform, http://forge.objectweb.org/project/showfiles.php?group_id=151 , has consequently been revamped to reflect those changes. Now three sections are available:

- eXo Enterprise WebOS, which holds the Community distribution for our new generation of Portal. People who want to install the Enterprise WebOS should download the package from here. Each package bundles all components developed so far, that is Portal and ECM. GroupWare will also be added pretty soon.

- eXo Core Foundations, which holds standalone versions of JCR and Portlet Container,

- eXo Premier Generation, which holds the still-maintained eXo Platform v1.

 

The eXo Enterprise WebOS era approaches. By revamping our distribution model, we hope to meet even more closely your expectations.
