Re: [jmob] Probes for CLIF

Hi Bruno,

Petr, would it be a problem if this code is adapted and put somewhere
in ObjectWeb GForge, typically inside the LeWYS project? I'm just wondering about license issues, since it would be more friendly for users to ship CLIF with LeWYS and a bunch of probes.

I see no problem with it, the code was written by me and my two colleagues and there are no license issues except for the standard opensource "do mention where this comes from" requirement.

I also agree with Emmanuel that separated probes are better, even though I also think that it should be possible to have a single probe
watching more than one resource (in some cases, for practical or efficiency reasons).

This is IMHO a very important point. Especially on Windows, and to a lesser degree also on Solaris, the information is gathered through a single syscall that returns tens of kilobytes of data reporting on multiple resources together. You would definitely NOT want to have separate probes, each of them calling the same syscall and discarding most of the returned data because they report on other resources. Some means of sharing the data between probes, or having a single probe reporting on multiple resources, should be available.

Regards, Petr
