Well with Carol, we don't use jndi.properties at all. the getEnvironment() method will return the environment of the default protocol (for now).if you do
InitialContext().lookup("dummyTest")
(no hastable to InitialContext), then you can always get the provider url from Context.getEnvironment(), am I right ? The content of jndi.properties is loaded into the context.
If no jndi.properties, then rmi is default, if memory serves me well.
With carol, this will return same value with or without this file.
If someone wants to override the content of jndi.properties, then yes, it must call carol API. But this can be done by the container at startup.Carol can be seen as "many jndi.properties" files available at a same time. Then we have to choose one from all availables.
