Log message:
        update the contrb doc to account for the most recent changes to the 
contrib build process.  This doc will become obsolete at such time as we move 
the contrib stuff out to their own modules.  Maybe there is a way to still 
make this work the same way even so?  We'll see.  For now, this will provide 
all the needed knowledge to run things as they are now.
